A Message To Officers

Do not be alarmed if you are feeling overwhelmed. A post shooting incident is a numbing event even for the most veteran of officers. You are about to embark on a personal struggle that is uniquely yours. Though singular in the circumstances surrounding the shooting, talking with others who have come through a similar event can be helpful. Seek out your peers. Consider that professional counseling does NOT diminish your character.

Yes, you are a cop, but you are human first, with frailties and strengths, all of which form your character. You did what you had to do - what you were trained to do. The moral excellence that is part of you still exists. Whether you decide to continue in a law enforcement career or seek another profession, remember...you went home alive.

Be safe - be well.
